Before the time of your grandfather's grandfather, the great empire of Olympius was at war with itself yet again. In a fit of drunken rage, the rule of the nation ordered the destruction of the province Arrowpact. He order that their cities be burn, their men be taken for slaves and their women and children be slaughtered. Outraged, the endangered province raised up an army to fight for their right to live, but there was little hope for them as the kings army was great, and theirs minuscule in comparison. The war raged for month upon month until the Arrowpactians were at the end of their strength, yet still they fought on. As each battle pasted, the soldiers became more disheartened, defeat seemed inevitable, surely all was lost. One of the few soldiers who refused to give up hope was Darius, son of the sword master in the city of Southgate. On the eve of the final battle for their freedom, a great lady of terrible beauty appeared to him. Afraid, the man dropped to his knees and bowed his head, sure she had come to kill him. But the lady nearly laughed and said to him, 'Fear not, noble warrior, for I am a friend. I have come bringing a gift, one which will bring you victory over your enemies. I give to you this horn. Sound it in battle tomorrow and you will surely win and for as long as you live there will be peace in Arrowpact. If, however, you do not return it to me in the Land of Immortals before the day you die, the horn will turn to dust and your people will not have it in their time of need and all that was accomplished will be lost.' The lady handed him the golden horn, and vanished. The next morning, Darius the sword master's son told the army leaders of the lady and the horn, but th nearly laughed at him and accused him of being drunk. Darius, however, refused to be discouraged by the generals' rude words and he sounded the horn as the army of Arrowpact charged the army of the king. Any man who raised a hand against the rebel army was turned to dust. When the Olympian soldiers saw what had happened to their comrades, they fled in terror. When the ruler of Olympius heard the events, his blood ran cold and his knees knocked together. Desperate to be free of the Arrowpactians lest they try and come against him and take his empire for their own, he granted them their freedom and swore that, as long as his blood was on the throne of Olympius, the two nations would be friends. The citizens of Arrowpact rejoiced in this and recognized Darius as their king, for it was he who had delivered him. As the woman had promised, there peace for all his days, until, at last, near the time of his death, the first king of Arrowpact set sail for the Land of the Immortals to keep the promise he had made.
